PASSENGER
OR MEMBER OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC
DO summon
appropriate assistance immediately and calmly.
DO record
all significant information about the incident.
DO give
respect and appropriate attention to the injured party.
DO obtain
and record the name, address and telephone number of the injured party and ask him/her to explain
what happened.
DO obtain
and record the name, address and telephone number of any witness to the
incident and any pertinent information available.
DO assist
paramedics, law enforcement personnel or senior Bluewater officers with information gathered (above).
DO record
in your report what part of the body was injured or what the injured person's complaint is (be specific).
DO note
in your report if the person is noticeably upset, agitated or complaining about the cause of the incident.
DO correct
any hazardous situation as soon as possible after attending to the injured person.
DON’T Suggest
or accept blame for the incident.
DON’T make
any promises.
DON’T make
payment or indicate in any way that medical bills will be paid.
DON’T recommend
a specific medical facility.
DON’T agree
or disagree with statements made by the injured party or others.
DON’T leave
the injured party unattended unless cleared by paramedics, law enforcement
personnel, the injured party or a senior Bluewater officer.
DON’T be or
appear to be agitated or out of control.
DON’T discuss
the incident with anyone but your supervisor, the injured party, or witnesses giving you information.
DON’T speculate
about the cause, seriousness or implications of the situation.
REMAIN PROFESSIONAL, CALM,
CONFIDENT AND IN CONTROL, FOR THE SAKE OF THE INJURED PARTY, WITNESSES, OTHER
PASSENGERS, THE CHAPTER AND YOURSELF.
