RPCX 15401 "Algonquin Park" was built by the Edward G. Budd Company in 1953-1954 for the Canadian
Pacific. In 1953, the Canadian Pacific Railroad made the largest stainless steel passenger car order ever made
of a total 176 cars. In this order, they ordered 36 dome cars for use in two of their trains, The Canadian and
The Dominion. The most luxurious of the whole order were 18 dome observation cars called the Park-series.
These are named for national and provincial parks in Canada.
Each was originally designed with three double bedrooms, a drawing room (sleeps three), an under-dome
lounge and bar, an observation lounge in the rear and the second story dome seating area. The lounge under
the dome was called the "Mural Lounge" because it features an oil-on-canvas mural of the park that the cars
were named after. The park Algonquin Park is in Ontario Province. The car's length is 85 feet and it weighs
144,500 pounds. Its style is a Dome/Observation/Lounge/Sleeper. It is owned by a private individual who is a
Bluewater member. The car is used for private trips and it can be seen on some of our excursions as a
First-Class section
