BMCX 856 has been a part of Bluewater's fleet since 2003. It was built as a 52-seat coach for the Richmond,
Fredericksburg, and Potomac Railroad by Budd in 1947. The seating capacity was later increased to 60 by
Amtrak in the early 1970s, and it retains this configuration today. Along with Bluewater's coach 857 this car was
not rebuilt by Amtrak as part of their Heritage Fleet in the early 1980s and was stored in the Cincinnati area
where it was extensively vandalized. The current owner spent many years searching for original fixtures to
replace what had been broken. The car was returned to operation, and has been used extensively in excursion
service for the past two decades.
856 has self-contained air conditioning and heat. One of the restrooms has been converted into a lounge for the
owners, and the Men's and Ladies' restrooms are both in the other restroom.
