TEMPORARILY OUT OF SERVICE FOR REPAIRS
BMCX 6604 "GLOBAL STAR IV" was built by the Budd Company in 1947 for the Seaboard Air Line Railroad. It
was used primarily in New York-Florida service in such trains as the "Silver Meteor" until the 1970's, when it was
sold to Amtrak (which took over most American intercity passenger train services in 1971). In 1983, the car was
later sold to Global Communications, who operated it in excursion trains over the Michigan Northern Railroad.
The Bluewater Michigan Chapter purchased the car in 1997. 6604 is constructed of stainless steel and is
equipped with electro-mechanical air conditioning and an electrical system consisting of an axle-driven 110 volt
DC generator charging a large bank of batteries.
